Editorial Review: A well-trained dog is the result of education – actually, more yours than your dog’s. You need to know what makes a dog a dog: how he thinks, reacts, grows, and expresses himself; what his needs are; and most important, why he does what he does. When you understand your dog, you will achieve a mutually rewarding relationship. Dogs aren't homogeneous. Each one is unique, and in their differences lie the challenge. Dog Training For Dummies can help anyone who has just brought home a puppy or is thinking of getting one. Even if you have experience with dog training, you’ll find useful information for a wide variety of dog breeds and personalities. This book is also for you if
- You want your dog to be well behaved – for his sake as well as yours.
- You have little or no knowledge of proper dog training techniques
- You have done some reading on the subject, but have had limited success with your dog. ...

After reading this book, neither you nor your dog will be a "dummy.", 2008-04-03
I was searching for a resource written in "plain English" that would help me understand my dog from the inside out.
Dog Training for Dummies has given me some keen insight into my pet's psychology. I absolutely love the concept of "postive training" as this method will undoubtly ensure a positive bonding experience with my dog.
Jack and Wendy Volhard have written a training manual that should be given to each new puppy owner. This resource has de-mystified the concept of dog training for me and has encouraged me to challenge my dog to be the best canine citizen he can be. This is, of course, for his good and well being as well as for ours.

A Training Book for Children, 2007-10-22
Insofar as children are the usual family member wanting an animal, this book makes them part of the whole training aspect, whih I feel is as necessary as their doing chores. (ie: feeding, bathing, walking dog)

MORE THAN A TRAINING MANUAL, 2007-03-20
I can't believe all the info in this book! It covers dog training and even nutrition. Worth every penny of the purchase price. Made me feel confident in my training techniques. I taught both of my dogs the "down" command in a week.
